1500 lb Hoist – Design and Fabrication Package
Overview
This project involved completing the design and detailing of a 1500 lb hoist based on an existing concept and preliminary drawings. My scope included finalizing the mechanical design, performing supporting calculations, and delivering a fabrication-ready drawing and documentation package in accordance with relevant industry standards, including AISC 325, ANSI B30.7, and CMAA 74.
Issue & Engineering Approach
The initial concept provided a functional layout but required further development to ensure it was suitable for fabrication, safe operation, and real-world installation.
The work focused on closing the gap between concept and manufacture by:

Ensuring compliance with applicable hoist and structural design standards

Refining components for practical fabrication and assembly
A key area of development was the integration of an adjustable the rotary limit switch mount that would provide flexibility in aligning to the main shaft.

Design Solution
To address installation variability and ensure reliable operation, an adjustable mounting system was designed for the rotary limit switch.
This allowed:

Height adjustment to match shaft centerline variation

Angular adjustment to ensure proper alignment with the drive geometry

Improved tolerance to real-world installation conditions
The result was a more robust interface that could be accurately set during commissioning without requiring rework or modification on site.

Outcome
The completed design package provided a fabrication-ready solution with clear documentation for manufacturing and assembly.
Completing this level of design detail helps reduce fabrication ambiguity and supports smoother installation and setup in the field.
